Checked on September 24, 2026 in a ChatGPT Pro account: with developer mode off, Plugins > + > Create plugin opened Plugin Creator instead of an MCP form. The remaining setup follows OpenAI’s custom MCP app guide; the labels can vary by account and workspace.
ChatGPT connects to custom MCP servers through developer mode. Copyfy uses OAuth: you sign in to Copyfy and approve access. ChatGPT does not support API keys for custom apps.

Requirements

  • A ChatGPT plan and workspace that allow custom MCP apps. Pro supports read/fetch MCP tools; workspace plans may require admin permission.
  • ChatGPT on the web (chatgpt.com). Developer mode apps are not available in the mobile apps.
  • On Business, Enterprise, and Edu workspaces, an admin must first allow developer mode and custom MCP connectors in Workspace settings > Permissions & roles. On Business, only admins and owners can use developer mode.

Add Copyfy

Turn on developer mode

Open Settings > Security and login and turn on Developer mode. In some workspaces the switch is under Settings > Apps > Advanced settings, and an admin must first allow it. The MCP URL field is not available until developer mode is on.

Open the custom MCP form

Open Plugins > + > Create plugin. If this opens a Plugin Creator chat instead of a form with an MCP server URL, use Settings > Apps > Create if your account shows it. Return to the developer mode setting if neither path shows an MCP URL field.

Enter the Copyfy details

  • Name: Copyfy
  • Description: Copyfy Discovery data: Shopify stores, winning products, and Meta ads.
  • MCP server URL: https://mcp-server.copyfy.io/mcp for the test environment, or https://app.copyfy.io/mcp after launch
  • Authentication: OAuth
  • Client ID and Client secret: leave blank

Scan and authorize

Click Scan Tools or start authorization. Sign in to Copyfy in the window that opens, click Allow access, and wait for the tools to appear.

Create the app

Check that Copyfy’s tools appear, then click Create. The custom app should show a Dev label.
ChatGPT warns that custom apps are not verified by OpenAI. Copyfy only exposes read-only tools. Confirm that the URL is the intended Copyfy test or production endpoint before you accept.

Use Copyfy in a chat

  1. In the message box, click +.
  2. Choose Developer mode, then select Copyfy. Some accounts list the custom app directly in the tools menu.
  3. Ask “Use Copyfy to show my MCP usage.” to check the connection.

Fallback: add it manually

If Create plugin only opens Plugin Creator, do not send the URL in that chat. Confirm developer mode is on, then look for Settings > Apps > Create. If custom MCP creation is still unavailable, your plan or workspace permissions may not include it.

Disconnect

Delete the app from ChatGPT’s app settings. To revoke access from the Copyfy side, click Revoke next to ChatGPT under Connected apps on the Integrations page. Having trouble? See Troubleshooting.
